The symptoms you reported (pain and puss with little blood coming out of belly button) might indicate the presence of a skin bacterial infection.

The previous scratching of the skin close to the belly button might have caused wounds that are not easily seen if located deep in the belly button. Therefore, the wound might have been additionally contaminated with bacteria that caused inflammation and pus to leak from the wound.

You might want to visit your family doctor for a physical examination of the wound. Laboratory tests might be needed. The doctor might want to have a swab from the wound to determine the exact bacteria that caused the inflammation and the most effective antibiotic.
