What causes back pain?
Back pain, backache, or "lumbago", affects 8 out of 10 people at some point during their lives. Backaches can come on quickly from a back injury caused by falling, lifting or an accident. Or, back pain can get worse slowly. There are many causes of back pain. The most common causes of back pain are:

  • back injuries
  • mechanical spinal problems
  • tumors
  • conditions and diseases such as: arthritis, endometriosis, fibromylagia, infections, kidney stones, osteoporosis, pregnancy, scoliosis, spinal stenosis, spondylolisthesis

Risk factors
Anyone can experience back pain, but some things that increase your risk of backache are:

  • age
  • genetics and hereditary
  • obesity
  • poor physical fitness
  • occupational job hazards
  • race
  • smoking cigarettes
