I'm being as specific and detailed as I can. My back pain does not hurt when there is pressure put against it. So that rules out any sore muscles. What I do know is the my back is stiff when I wake up in the morning or inactive for a long period of time. Mu back hurts when I twist left, right, and bend it backwards. I've been having this problem for about 2 years now and I've been to 2 doctors. The first doctor gave me and x-ray and said it was normal and prescribed some pain and muscle spams medicine. That did not help one bit. The second doctor gave me blood test and that was all normal and just told me to take Tylenol for the pain and that did not help either because I've tried that before. I haven't had any sort of back injuries in the past and no kind of accidents at all. I've gained a few pounds since then but nothing like that should cause this kind of back pain. I don't think its my mattress because I've slept on a normal twin mattress most of my life and never had this problem. I really don't know what to do about this because its uncomfortable for me and I've been dealing with for too long. Does anyone have ideas on what this can be? Could it be linked to some kind of disease? Some doctors just don't seem to concern about back pain because it's so common but when it persistent like this something is not right. All feedback will be appreciated!

Do see a chiropractor
Now this is alot like getting a second opinion. Chiropractors are just like if not more qualified than the doctors you visited before. Do some shopping around for your chiropractor. I have found those that graduated from Palmer, Davenport Ohio are of the best kind (younger the better) AND they should be a FAMILY practice clinic. Your pain also sounds like it is referral pain.

What I mean is there is a compensatory part of your back that is "out" or misaligned. The part that you feel is the focal point of another area that is hurt in your back. I know kind of strange.... I work alot on my feet and at the pc. when I lay down my sacrum is so sore!!! That is not from sitting down alot but my shortened hamstrings are pulling on my low back. Consequently my "but" hurts and then my mid back is what hurts in the morning when I get up..... just because my lower spine (lumbar) is out

Sure no problem. I would also recommend going to a sauna, or having an epsom salt bath..... let your muscles relax..... your chiro should want to work with you on corrective action like finding the cause as well as fixing your pain problem..... they are expensive but if he offers footlevers for you then get them. I love mine but they are expensive:( They last 2 years but so worth it you will see the chiropractor less with these......

Congratulations on getting married!!!! Best wishes to you.

Back Pain Facts
Although chiropractors care for more than just back pain, many patients visit chiropractors looking for relief from this pervasive condition. In fact, 31 million Americans experience low-back pain at any given time.

What Causes Back Pain?
The back is a complicated structure of bones, joints, ligaments and muscles. You can sprain ligaments, strain muscles, rupture disks, and irritate joints, all of which can lead to back pain. While sports injuries or accidents can cause back pain, sometimes the simplest of movements—for example, picking up a pencil from the floor— can have painful results. In addition, arthritis, poor posture, obesity, and psychological stress can cause or complicate back pain. Back pain can also directly result from disease of the internal organs, such as kidney stones, kidney infections, blood clots, or bone loss.

Chiro Treatment for Back Problems
Used primarily by Doctors of Chiropractic (DCs) for the last century, manipulation has been largely ignored by most others in the health care community until recently. Now, with today's growing emphasis on treatment and cost effectiveness, manipulation is receiving more widespread attention.

Chiropractic spinal manipulation is a safe and effective spine pain treatment. It reduces pain, decreases medication, rapidly advances physical therapy, and requires very few passive forms of treatment, such as bed rest.

In fact, after an extensive study of all currently available care for low back problems, the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research—a federal government research organization—recommended that low back pain sufferers choose the most conservative care first. And it recommended spinal manipulation as the only safe and effective, drugless form of initial professional treatment for acute low back problems in adults....

I hope it will help making dicission..

I think it is better you should consult through your family Dr. because he know your history and will help, if he don't mind it! otherwise you can consult at your own.

I would suggest that you start by seeing your PCP or family doctor first. Them it would be best to seek the opinion of a spinal surgeon for a full evaluation. Either an orthopedic surgeon that specializes in spines or a neurosurgeon that specializes in spines only.

An MRI is probably in order to visually see what is going on, if anything and what the best course of treatment would be.

I would not count on your new insurance covering you for chiropractic care. many of the ins companies require a waiting period for a pre-existing condition. Since you have been suffering with this for more than 2 years, they will consider this a pre-existing condition and may not cover you for a period of time, usually 6 months.

I would start now, by seeing a spinal surgeon and get an evaluation as to what is going on with the insurance you have now. If you are already under treatment for a condition before the new insurance starts, you may have some leverage to have the new insurance pic up the pre existing condition because you are already under medical care and they would be less likely to deny you coverage.

Good luck and congrats on your impending wedding.

Thanks Fran. I never thought about the whole pre-existing situation. It really sucks because I cant get any good insurance. The insurance I have not doesn't even pay for doctor visits. Which is just insane! A doctor visit cost me $133 for no more than 1 hr! It's insurace from Veteran Affairs because I'm a student and my father is a Verteran. Prescriptions are very cheap when I use the prescription card. Sometimes I just want to say forget about and just live with it since I have for over 2 years.

133 an hour - look for a deal first
Hey, the doctor visits...... surgeons.... if you find a chiropractor they often run specials where you can get exam, xrays if needed, consultation (an education) for a really good deal. Like 40-60 bucks.... and if he sees something he can't fix he will tell you where to go..... bring your medical history with you if you think it would help.... Your doctor will have your records, they are yours not his.

Second, a chiropractor's education is more than a MD. They have more time and credits in diagnosis and pathology than any MD. I would find one who is kind of young 30-40 and graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic. See the DC for half of a normal doctor's visit.

Mr Burton, I don't see how a chiropractor's education is more than a doctors.

Do they really have more time and credits in diagnosis and pathology than any doctor?

How do you figure that out?

Love, how are you doing? Have you been able to see a spine surgeon yet for diagnosis?

Personally I would not suggest you see a chiropractor for treatment. You really need to have a medical diagnosis from a doctor of medicine, not a doctor of chiropractic.

arthroscopic surgery
If I listened to my doctor for my shoulder I would have had arthroscopic surgery on my shoulder already. When I was 13! I am now 31 and my shoulder works fine.... no surgery for me.

Thanks for the reply.
