3 weeks ago I went tubing at the lake being pulled by boat and I didn't let
go and it stretched a muscle on the back lower portion of my shoulder it
has healed a bit but still hurts really bad when i try to train for upcoming
football season resulting in me not doing a lot which is just not me.

Also the same time i hurt my shoulder i think i might have hurt my ribs by twirling and hitting the water really fast when i fell off... When we got back to land i had someone pop my back to see if my pain would get better and i don't know if it made me worse or better, or if it made my rib pain worse since that area was being squeezed by that person when my back was being popped......

my ribs hurt when i breath hard or cough, or sneeze and much more other things and even when i lay down and when i situp from laying down my ribs hurt... i used to think i just bruised my ribs but i think now it might be a little more that just that...I now think my ribs are either misplaced very slightly or just bruised and a muscle in same area is strained/torn i really dont know..

And my parents think i should just toughen up and fight this pain... but when i go to run a lap around football field for my summer conditioning i run about 2/5 my normal speed and i hurt and moan and groan all the way around the field and when i make it around im really not that out of breath at all just in pain.. last year i was hurt alot in football but i wasnt ever in pain for weeks just maybe 1-3 maybe 4 day.

MY question now is CAN i go see a chiropractor or a doctor What should i do ;(

Two-A-Days starts in 2-3 weeks which is lots of hard running and running
hurts right now

sorry if all this i typed doesnt flow together i was just typing what has happened and other info about whats going on randomly with a little improvision..

please help and thanks for any replys...

sorry i had this posted in wrong forums earlier this forum matches better

Hello Fozzy,

What should you do? See a spine/shoulder specialist, and do so promptly. And I do mean a specialist with MD after his/her name. I put my faith in no one else.

Toughen it up? NO WAY!!!! Being a "tough guy" is not wise, NOT wise at all.

Now see those specialists. Make sure you get some X-rays of the areas that are causing you pain.

PLEASE be more concerned about your injuries, than about playing football. FOR if you don't, you may never play football again!!!!!

AND PLEASE NO MORE FOOTBALL TRAINING UNTIL A SPINAL SURGEON/NEUROSURGEON SAYS ITS OKAY TO DO SO!!!!!

Fozzy, I'm so sorry that you are in so much pain and your parents think you should just "toughen up fight this pain"
That must be very difficult to hear from your parents and when hurt so much.

So, maybe, my post will help you and help your parents to understand that is the worst thing you can do.

I'm a parent of 2 children, now 30 and 25. They where athletes all through their lives, still are for that matter, and varsity athletes all through HS and college.
So, as a Mom, I've dealt with many a sports injury with them, including a son who had to have an ankle reconstructed.
I also was and still am a soccer coach, so I also know about dealing with athletes and pain and injuries.

The first thing that is needed to understand here is that PAIN IS NOT NORMAL AND IT IS THE BODIES MESSAGE TO THE PERSON IN PAIN THAT SOMETHING IS WRONG AND NEEDS TO BE DETERMINED WHAT IT IS THAT IS CAUSING THE PAIN.

3 weeks of going through this pain is 3 weeks to long for you. You have had no improvement with the pain.

Ribs that hurt when you breath hard, sneeze, when you lay down and when you sit up from laying down is serious.
You very possibly may have broken your rib or ribs and continuing to do any type of strenuous movement like running etc. could potentially puncture your lung. That is very serious.

Yes, it is possible the person the you had "pop your back" could have made your ribs worse or even broken them.
It is never a good idea to have someone just do that to you, especially if they are not properly trained to do this.

What you need to do is see your primary care doctor ASAP. like today. He/she will no doubt order some xrays of your ribs to start with and see what is going on with them as well as xrays of your shoulder.

From that point your primary may order further tests or have you see a specialist right away.

What you need is immediate medical attention, and do not do any further exercises, attempts at conditioning for football or anything else.

Your health is the most important concern right now. I'm saying that as a mother, a coach and another human being.

If your parents continue to tell you to toughen in up and won't help you or authorize you to see your doctor, then I would suggest you talk with your football coach ASAP and/or the athletic trainer for your football team. They will not let you play or practice in the condition you are in and will speak with your parents on your behalf.

You need medical attention ASAP and should have gotten it 3 weeks ago.

I hope my post helps you to make your parents understand that you need medical attention ASAP and my advise will help you if they still don't agree with it.

Good luck and let us know what is going on.

Fran
