Q: back pain and ammonia in urine

I have radiating lower back pain. It appears to be in the kidney area. I do not think I have spinal or muscular challenges. I believe the kidney is involved and the ammonia is a clue. It is a strong odor and is present in most urination. I have chills, fatigue, low body temperature, low blood pressure. I have had CFS for years. I am very careful what I do with my body and what I put on it. I try to eat organic and avoid chemical additives, etc. I exercise and I am able to sleep well. My back pain is with me 24/7. It sometimes makes me feel nauseated, it is so intense. I believe my kidneys are my Achilles heel as I hurt them as a 12 y/o child. I fell off a horse and was hospitalized for two weeks, as I had burst open one kidney. The doctors gave me antibiotics and I returned to 'normal' I imagine. I am wondering if this accident may have made my kidneys more prone to disease or just not functioning properly. I am not able to find an answer and I usually can help myself with herbs and blended medicine. I have a positive attitude, love life, and have many great people in my life. I also have a situation where my husband's adult children (ages 48 to 57) do not speak to us. This is a very stressful unresolved situation. Can this be affecting my health? It bothers me more than my husband. I am barely older than the three daughters who love to 'hate me' and this is a problem for them. We have tried everything to solve matters, but they do not respond. Thanks, Jan

If you have a fever, chills, fatigue and the rest of the symptoms that you have listed, it sounds like you have a kidney infection in either one or both kidneys.

You need to see a doctor right away, regardless of how you treat yourself.

Permanent kidney damage can result from lack of treatment from a kidney infection.

Please see a doctor right away

I agree, see a doctor, kidney infections are very serious and easily treated if done so promptly.

Drink plenty of water too.

It does sound like a kidney infection, especially if you have a fever. I agree with the others, go to the urologist right away! Considering you had damage to your kidney when you were younger, you don't want to ever ignore the signs of infection. Stress can do a lot to your body but this doesn't sound like stress.

I hope you feel better soon!

If you haven't been seen by a doctor as of yet...have someone drive you to the emergency room...NOW.

Kidney infection, left untreated can be life-threatening.
