I suggest that you see a spine surgeon for an evaluation. either and orthopedic surgeon that specializes in spines or a neurosurgeon that specializes in spines.
There may be nothing that can be done, on the other hand, there may be something that can help.
Until you are evaluated by a spine specialist, and maybe have an MRI or CT scan to see what may or may not be going on, you will not know.
At the very least, it's worth an attempt to find out what is and isn't going on and maybe there is something that can be done to treat the problem.
Both of you should consider this ideas.
