The last few weeks i've had pain in my back in my left side around the bottom of my rib cage, and sometimes it spreads across my lower back. I am 57 years old and do have ostro arthritis in my neck and knee. I have taken the occasional anti-inflammatory but I have to be careful because my stomach's very senitive.

If I press the area it hurts more could it be coming from my spine? About four years ago I had the same problem and was sent for a special x-ray (with dye) on my kidneys and all was normal, the pain then eventually settle.

Anyone any ideas please?

You need to see your primary doctor first and then see if a referral to a spine specialist is warranted.

It's hard to tell if it is your spine that is causing this.

The fact that you have documented osteoarthritis in your cercical spine and your knee, suggests that you may have osteo now in your lumbar spine and this may the cause of your pain.
