Hello,
About eight to nine weeks ago I fell and hit my left knee. About a week after that I started to have pain in my left leg stemming from behind my knee. After four weeks of this pain which at this point had also spread to mid way down my calf and all the way up to my butt I went to my PCP. They did an ultrasound and an Xray of my left knee and lower leg. Both showed no problems. I was sent to a neurologist. He did an EMG and a nerve cunduction test. Both of these showed no nerve or muscle damage. I then had an MRI of my left knee and lower leg taken. The results said I had some scar tissue in my knee, so I was sent to an ortho. At this point about seven weeks after my pain had initially started my lower back had begun to hurt. I can't stand up straight it causes pain to shoot down my leg. I've missed a week of work due to the pain being so bad which didn't do much good. My job requires me standing alot and some moderate lifting. At first after a few hours of working the pain in my leg would disappear. Initially when I got the back pain the leg pain would diappear but the pain in my back would remain all day. Now the back pain and leg pain remain all day. The majority of my pain is when I'm walking or standing. My neurolgist prescribed me Reflan(anti inflammatory). I take 1000-1500mg a day and this does nothing for the pain. I was also taking percocet for a short time and this also did little for the pain. A few days ago I went saw the ortho doctor. He looked at my MRI pictures and felt my knee. He said he didn't see or feel any scar tissue. He took Xrays of my back and said I had a narrowed disc. He also wants me to get an MRI of my back. Narrowing of a disc in my back could explain the leg pain, but wouldnt this have shown up in the EMG or nerve cunduction test? Also could this new back pain and narrowing of a disc been caused by the stress of limping on my left leg? I'm going to another ortho doctor for a second opinion but the soonest I can get an appoinment is a week from now. Is there anything or any exerise that I do in the meantime to alleviate the pain?
