Q: Back and abdominal pain and diagnostics
asked by: DoctorQuestion on March 15th, 2008
Severe lower back pain with pain in stomach right under breast line. If I drink milk, or eat dairy products, it goes away fairly quickly. I had my gall bladder removed about 8 years ago, but that is what the pain feels like in my back and stomach.......just like it did when I had my gall bladder. What could be causing this pain? Sometimes, I also feel pressure in stomach (like gas) and mouth becomes very watery. I feel as if I am going to vomit. The feeling then goes away after a few min and I feel normal again. What could cause this to happen?

This pain (“severe lower back pain with pain in stomach right under breast line”) could be due to a stomach or duodenum disorder (gastritis, duodenitis, diverticulum, peptic ulcer, tumor, etc.). Chronic pancreatitis and bile duct obstruction can also cause similar symptoms. You may want to request an abdominal ultrasound scan and gastroscopy to reveal the true diagnosis. Standard blood analyses (blood count, sedimentation, hemoglobin, bilirubin, AST, ALT, urea, creatinin…) may also be requested.
