My baby is 5 weeks old. I left her on the couch to get her bottle off of the counter she was propped up on a breastfeeding pillow (to keep her on the couch.. I thought) I didn't see her fall.. I heard it and she started crying alot.. WHen I went to get her she was laying tummy down and her face was down. Her head is already bumpy so I am not sure if there is a real bump... The couch is like 1 1/2 feet off of the floor. I am scared could have this really injured her?

Babies at 5 weeks cannot roll, however they can squirm around so much that they can fall off any elevated surface. Never underestimate how far a little baby can wiggle.

If she fell off the couch, you should probably take her in to the doctor to make sure she is ok. Chances are that she wouldn't have sustained much injuries because babies are so light and their bones are softer. If you have carpet versus hard flooring, then that's even better.

Never leave a baby unattended on any elevated surface whether you surround her with pillows which can cause suffocation and she can push those over and fall anyway, or strap her down in some way. If you must leave your baby, keep her in something like a bassinet, crib, swing, that has been approved to be used for babies and be sure to follow the instructions, or just leave her on the floor if you have to.

Hope that helps and that your baby is ok.

Thanks..

The dr.s was closed today, and I was afraid to take her to the hospital incase she caught something there in the 8-12 hour wait...

Anyway, she fell at 11am now its 900 pm.. So, I am thinking that shes ok. I am still keeping an eye on her.

She's 10.2 pounds and I did hear a small bump when she fell.. I will continue to watch her though, but shes not acting any different
