Q: Awaken with severe pain in stomach

I have had many problems with my stomach and digestive system in the past and more recently. None of which I have seen a Dr. about. The first one that is bad but hasn’t happened for a while is being waken up at night in severe pain in my stomach and the need to get to the bathroom quickly. Everything that I have recently consumed is eliminated (explosively). The pain is so bad that I start to sweat and feel like vomiting and fainting.
More recently I have been experiencing painful bloating, where my abdomen feels very hard and sticks out. I have difficulty passing gas, so this is very uncomfortable and takes a long time to go away. My bowel movements go from one extreme to the other. One week I will have four or five movements a day. And then be constipated for days. I don’t know if this is all connected or I have many different problems.??
I’m sure I also have acid reflux. Sometimes eating just plain rice makes me have heartburn and feel like throwing up.
I plan to see my Dr. soon as I just found a new one. I was just wondering of what I should ask my Dr. I prefer not to take medications. What should I do, what kind of tests Should I ask for?

I feel your pain! I have been having stomach problems off and on for the past year... More recently, I have been extremely bloated and have a constant full feeling in my stomach. I eat pretty healthy, I avoid all trigger foods, but still get this yucky feeling. I get the same types of attacks you do- diarrhea with the feeling of having to throw up or pass out. And let's not forget the constant lingering nausea. Yuck.

I have explained this to my general doc, who has advised me to take Prilosec OTC to neutralize my stomach acids and Immodium to stop the diarrhea. Blood tests came back normal.

I have an appointment with a gastroenterologist this week- hopefully he is able to help me out. It's very frustrating feeling like this and being told that "everything is normal."

I'll update after my appointment- I hope you do the same! And feel better.

I am with you. I have problems with bloating. I have tried pro-biotic drinks to releve constipation but for the first time last night I had that severe pain in the middle of night. When I tried to have bowel movement I almost immediately felt nausea and nearly fainted. But I am also 6 weeks pregnant and I was worried that it has something to do with pregnancy. I get bloated after eating rice and beans. And recently discovered that milk also plays a part in bloating. Does this pain subside itself? Please update when you get some answers. thanks
