Q: Avoid Radical Neuromuscular Dental Treatments

These treatments are too radical for most and should be considered only as a last resort. Never allow any practitioner to make any permanent changes to your bite, including significant restorations, without trying every conservative approach first.

Try a splint and perhaps some medication to start with. Many dentists think they know how to make splints, but don't, so be careful! Don't tolerate results that leave you worse off. When it comes to meds, muscle relaxers, benzodiazepines, and non- benzodiazepine anxiolytic drugs can help slow bruxing some.

But, if you're pretty bad off, find an oral surgeon who can administer Botox injections in the the relevant muscles to greatly slow and ease bruxing and give you a new lease on life. This is the most well-researched, highly effective treatment I've found for bruxing.

I couldn't agree more. Stay away from any dentist who is going to change your natural bite. If you have TMJ then you should seek the advice and treatment from a doctor who is also a dentist. An MRI should be done before any treatment is started. How can a dentist possibily treat you when they do not know what is happening in your jaw? I strongly advise you to seek as many opinions as possible before commencing any permanent changes to your natural bite.
