Hey Everyone,
im a 26 y.o male from australia and have been having problems with my heart and just looking for some re-assurence.
So a few months ago i had this episode where i thought i was having a heart attack at work my heart had been feeling fluttery all the previous night and all morning untill around 10am i got a pain in my chest and went numb on my left side and felt like i was blacking out.
At the hospital the ecg and everything were normal And told i had a throat infection ( i never knew they could do that) followed up with my doctor who ordered a stress test which showed periods of rapid af when i was pushed to my limits of the stress test. however during the stress test i had none of the symptoms i have/have been having
i was having symptoms every day (not to the degree of hospitalisation) but fluttering chest some sharp stabbing chest pain tingling in left arm feeling dizzy. and the symptoms would happen for most of the day there were only a few hours a day i would have no symptoms.
so i finally see the cardiologist the other day and he has put me on beta blockers for the af and small aspirin doses but was unable to tell me why when i was in af mode during the stress test i had none of the symptoms i had been expierencing.
(im on day one with the beta blockers and still same symptoms )

any input would be greatly appreciated

Quite possible the symptoms you notice are because it is a very sudden onset of rapid AF and so you notice your heart noticeably fluttering. When you were doing the stress test, you would have already gotten your heart up to a high rate anyway, and so when the AF rhythm set in, the rate was not much faster than what your heart was doing anyway. Less of a change in HR thus less obvious symptoms at the time.
Just keep going with the meds and the symptoms may improve over time. Make sure you have a follow up sometime with the cardiologist and if you get symptoms that are particularly bad - especially severe chest pain or actually passing out - head straight to an emergency dept so they can pick up what is happening at that exact moment!!!
