Q: asthma controller drugs increase sensitivity ?

I was put onto an asthma controller drug two years ago, I took it for 3 or 4 months till I lost my insurance and was no longer able to afford the drug. My question is based around the fact that after I stopped taking the asthma controller drug my asthma symptoms and frequency of symptoms increased radically over what they were prior to the controller. I was aggressively exercising and regardless of how much I tried to work on increasing lung capacity and reducing frequency of symptoms by exercise, but nothing I did helped. I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed anything similar after having taken asthma controllers and if the drugs make you dependent on them after using them. If there are more cases like this then it may be a serious consideration when deciding on prescribing these drugs.
