Hi. I am very confused. I had a viral flu infection since 23rd October. I went to the doc on Saturday 31st October, because I was tired, and chest was tight. I just could not shake the flu. I was flat. I also was batteling to breath. I was coughing but the mucous was only yellow. I never had a sore throat or runny nose. I was sent away and told my lungs were clear. Should the mucous turn green take the antibiotic. By Tuesday the mucous wasn't green, but shortness of breath got worse. I got the antibiotic and took it. By Wednesday still no improvement. Phoned the doctor as I could not walk up the stairs without wheezing and couldnt complete full sentences without gasping for air. I normally run 10 km no problem, so climbing 10 stairs and batteling to breath told me something not right. Got to the doctor and he said chest is clear, but have a bit of a wheeze and deep cough, got type of bronchial spasm. Got a nebulizer and had to nebulize. By friday on nebulizer and antibiotic, still no improvement. Sounded like a tractor with wheezing chest through the night. Woke up several times. By Friday 10 oclock still yellow flem, cough that sounded terrible, wheezing chest, and appeared i was having a panic attack, but I was not panicing. I nebulised, and cough got worse, no relief. I could not talk full sentences. I got major shakes. Muscels behind shoulder blades and front of chest felt like they were squeezing all the life out my chest. Phoned the doctor he told me need cortisone. Went back to doctor to pick up script. I mananged to say I cant breath. Doctor told me i am fine ???? my legs had a mind of there own,,,shaking profusely, couldnt stop deep sounding coughing, breath short and fast, finger nails blue, I was white as a ghost. But apparently my oxygen level with the finger tester on my finger 93 was perfect. My chest clear. Blood pressure fine. Was given cortisone jab and after 30 minutes managed to breath, cough gone, flem gone muscles relaxed. Doc sent me for an xray. Was then 2 hours after nebuliser and cortisone. Apparently alls fine.
I normally have very low blood pressure and high oxygen levels when alls good. I am not a sickly person.I have only once ever had this before 9 years ago, the same severity. Never diagnosed. Neither time was I asked to blow into any device would this have indicated an asthma attack, or if blood pressure, chest hearing, and oxygen finger test came back normal it rules out asthma? If so what could it be ?Any advise would be appreciated.Thank you

Have you had a chest x-ray? If not, ask for one. I had fungal pneumonia about a year ago with pleurisy (horrible pain), my "doctor" couldn't hear anything in my lungs and my blood oxygen was fine, too. Only after going to another doctor did he hear the small spot on my mid-back where the pneumonia was and he sent me for a chest x-ray, where they saw the pneumonia.

If this doctor won't take you seriously, go to someone else. Get a chest x-ray or a chest CT. You shouldn't be this sick for this long. Get a referral to a lung specialist if you have to (even though they can be hard to get into). The antibiotics may not have been strong enough to fight off the pneumonia (you took ALL of them, right?).
