Meningitis Answer A5033
Current medical status: aspectic meningitis that manifests more than once. In my case I have had 5 attacks with different causative agents since october 2008. Mine is not caused by Herpes Simplex II. I have been hospitalized 3 times in 2 months for this condition, but no help because it is so rare.
Current medical treatment: dilaudid 2mg PRN, percocet PRN, ultram 50mg TID, acupuncture biweekly

Aseptic meningitis in practice means that the cause for meningitis is not a pyogenic (pus creating) bacterium. Aseptic meningitis is caused by multiple conditions including infectious viral and non-viral causes and many noninfectious etiologies. Aseptic means “without infection” so viral meningitis can’t be aseptic but in practice these two terms are wrongly used as synonyms.

Viral causes can be: herpes viruses, mumps virus, enteroviruses, HIV, adenoviruses, arbovirus, arenaviruses, etc. Non-viral causes can be: tuberculosis, brucellosis, syphilis, lime disease, certain fungi, parasites, etc. Non-infective causes can be: certain medicines (NSAID), autoimmune disorders, etc.

You said that you had had 5 attacks with different causative agents. Which causative agents were they? This is very important because therapy and prognosis depends upon the cause.
