I got my first papsmear done about a month ago and the doctor called me back in to tell me that the results came back abnormal and I have what they call is ASCUS results or something? I am totally freaking out and the doctor just told me to come back in another 6 months to get re tested but I just cant stop thinking that something is wrong! Im afraid that I have HPV or cervical cancer. I was also wondering if anyone knew if ascus could mean I have an STD? even though I am pretty sure he tested me for all stds...I know I should of asked him more questions but I was in shock. ALSO can ASCUS results mean I may be infertile??

First, relax, you DO NOT have cervical cancer.

Did your doctor test you for HPV? Did you ask? You can call and ask if it would make you feel better.

ASCUS is, as you may know, is MILDLY abnormal cells. ASCUS stands for Atypical Cells of Undetermined Significance. It could be caused from cervical irritation or possibly a slight infection. This all means, it isn't something you should be terribly worried about. Go back in 6 months and get a repeat pap smear.

This does not mean you are infertile. This does not mean you have cancer. This does not mean you have HPV. It means you have mildly abnormal cells on your cervix.

I am so glad I found this site! I recently was told the same thing. I had gone to planned parent hood and they called me. They told me that it could be from me having to used to smoke? Even though I've quit for 5 months now. I tried to ask questions and she seemed to be too busy to answer them so I've been searching online! Thanks for the answers! What kind of infections could this possibly be from? Like a yeast Infection?...
