Q: Artrosis treatment

Dear,
I am writing to ask about the possibilities of recuperation from a very recently detected affection on my partner's lower back. He seems to have a very advanced form of artrosis (deformative), which has developed into some kind of pointy corners on the sides of his vertebrates.
This, of course, causes him a lot of pain. The doctor has prescribed shark cartilago in powder. Though he said that it wouldn't be possible to revert any of his condition, this would stop slowly from getting worse.
Is there any alternative recommendation for treatments,

Also what is the worse that can happen?, Can this limit a person to not being able to walk? Thanks for taking the time.
Florio
