Q: Arthritis and/or Inflammation?

Well, it's turning winter here in South Africa...and with the cold, my joint pain is starting to flair up.

The chondromalatial-osteo arthritis in my knees I am aware of...and have ways and means to deal with it...as well as knowing the cause...

As for the rest of my joints, they flare up differently. It's a dull pain that starts at one joint and progressively spreads to the next joint through the day up to the point where, for instance, my wrist and elbow joint is in intense pain while the arm-bone inbetween is in more minor pain.

My GP seems content with a diagnosis of "Inflammation"...what would be the cause of chronic-inflammation? How much anti-inflamatories can you take before it becomes a health threat?

At a recent visit to a occupational therapist, it was mentioned once again that I have hyper-mobile joints. It really frustrates me because every second Medical-Professional I see says the opposite of the prior one. The one would say that my joints is hyper-mobile...the next would say it's normal, then the next again would say it's not normal...and so on and so forth.

Turning into agony...
Just to note...the situation is turning into utter agony. Every single joint in my left arm is in intense pain. It is so bad, that my fingers, the top of my hand and my arm between my wrist and elbow is going numb...not numb to the touch but numb in terms of movement.

I have no idea when will be able to see my GP again, but it definately will have to happen if this continues.

Any ideas/suggestions?

Problem identified...and sort of solved.
Well, the Marfans DX has a whole lot to do with the explanation for the problem...

I have "Loss of cartlidge" in my left wrist causing the burning sensation. The only treatment at this point is anti-inflamatories, a wrist brace to immobalise till the inflamation is resolved and Arthritis supplements to slow down the process of cartlidge degeneration through-out the rest of my bod.

Failing alleviation and/or increase of pain, the suggested course of treatment is Cortezone injections directly into the wrist.

Failing that...as a last resort, the suggested course of treatment is fusing of the wrist...before the bones fuse them-selves and do it "improperly" which would lead to a whole different can of worms as trying to "unfuse" bones that was never supposed to grow together but has done so due to the cartlidge not being in the way any more, is not as simple as a broken arm that mended improperly and can be broken again....

* Sigh *
