I don't want to get into exactly what it
was, it is long and confusing but a few
years ago something happened and I've been
pretty afraid of water ever since. I'm 15
now, and I'm pretty hard working at
everything. I'm doing everything I can to
try to face this fear. For a few years now
I've been doing swim team in order to face
this fear I have. These are intense
practices where they don't let you stop or
take a break, and they are up to 3 hours
long. It tackles my biggest problem,
having my head in the water. I constantly
have this strange urge to inhale, kind of
an OCD thing, and I am absolutely
TERRIFIED of drowning. I have nightmares
about it, worry about, and it makes me
feel uncomfortable when doing certain
things. Anyway, ever since I've been
training myself to not be afraid, it's
helped a lot, but the fear is still there
and it still makes me nervous when in the
water, so how do I completely make it go
away?

First, bravo for facing a fear. That is
huge. Sometimes you need some feedback on
how you think about things. Therapy can
provide that for you. Have you considered
therapy for overcoming your fear? It may
prove worthwhile. You have done the
hardest part yourself. The next step will
not be as daunting. I hope you will
consider therapy.

You're really doing the best thing you can
be, by being in the water. The more you do
it, and reassure yourself that you are
fine, the less the anxiety will get. I
agree with antigone, therapy might really
help work through it, while you face it.
