The other night, I had pretty severe pain behind my belly button, similar to pain related to an inflamed/burst appendix. It was so bad, that it caused me to vomit. However, I had my appendix removed over a year ago. I have heard of people having similar issues after eating certain foods after having their appendix removed. Could that be what this was? It's happened a few times before and goes away after a few hours. I know I should probably ask a doctor but wanted to see if anyone else had similar issues.

Hi,
I'm browsing these boards after googling appendectomy "chronic pain"....like you I had an emergency appendectomy (with perotonitis) over a year ago. I still have pain...sometimes just as bad as the original stuff when my appendix burst...and havn't really had a day without it, since being discharged from my 2 month stretch in hospital. After numerous specialist examinations, tests etc...the diagnosis is "sequela of surgery" which no one really cares to specifically define...ie: they "don't really know" and I've also been told..."perhaps it will go away with time". It's been driving me crazy now for 12 months and if it weren't for painkillers I'm sure I would have killed myself by now - I certainly couldn't live with the agony unmedicated. I hope that you manage to sort out the problem that your experiencing, so good luck with that. I know how frustrating it all can be. Regards, sandy. PS- before the incident I'd never had a day in hospital and was always fit & healthy (47 y.o). Good Luck !

Thanks for your post Sandy. It doesn't sound like what I experience is the same as your pain, or at least not as severe. It's only happened a few times over the last year and a half but it was pretty bad each time, almost to the point where I wanted to go to the ER again. I'm thinking it's related to whatever I ate that night (chicken wings... super healthy!). Perhaps I can't eat things like that anymore? I'm going to keep a mental journal of what I eat before it happens again (although hopefully it never does) and see if anything is similar. I do hope you find a solution to your pain soon! Chronic pain is awful, especially when you can't seem to get any answers!
