Hello,I currently have Mirena inserted and I have a 1 year old child and although I would love to have another child soon, the timing isn't right. I've gone through various complications w/ the IUD(painful cysts, severe headaches, etc.)my dr even had a hard time finding it at one point which was very scary. After a few ultrasounds he found it to be in place.Although he assures me that everything is fine/normal, something just doesn't sit right w/ me & I don't feel right w/ it.I am seriously considering removing it but don't know what other BC option is best for me.I know I can't keep up w/ a pill and my main concern in BC is the side effects. If it were up to me, I wouldn't be on any but pregnancy is not an option right now.Is there any safe BC w/ minimal side effects that you recommend?

Hi,
Welcome to ehealthforum.
If the side effects are the main concern, then consider requesting your treating gynecologist to start you on low dose birth control. These have lower doses of hormones contained in them, and hence fewer side effects. If the IUD is giving you trouble, and you do not feel right with it, consider getting it removed and get started on alternative birth control option.
Take care.
