I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions for books about Bipolar.
I'm new here and have been browsing the post. I am a mom of a Bipolar 1 ultra rapid cycler w/ psychotic episodes. After getting through all the medical terminology, I found memoirs of others to be very helpful for me and my daughter.. Just the other day I began reading a book called, "I just want my daughter back" by B C Levinson that I got on Amazon. It really is a great story about a mothers experiences with her daughters bipolar disorder. It is really inspiring me to keep my chin up and stay strong for my daughter.
Just a thought. Take care to all & hang in there... looking

BD books
Hello,

I read 'The Bipolar Disorder Survival Guide' by Miklowitz, 2002 and 'Bipolar Disorder' by Mondimore, 2006. They helped me to better understand the different types of BD, symptoms, treatments, medications & side-effects, ways to communicate with family & friends, and helpful lessons to use in life.

Continue to be supportive of your child. Thankfully my parents are supportive of and patient with me and my constant mood swings.

all I can say is
do not read "madness" by Marya Hornbacher. She has a very severe case and it will just scare the living bejeezus out of you, or even worse, trigger a manic episode (I'm not kidding).

That said, Paul Jones' The Up and Down Life is great. It's easy to read, conversational in tone and gives you the basic nitty gritty of everything you need to know. It's also a good book for your friends or family to read if they're interested in learning more about your illness

Books for Bipolar
I'd second the Miklowitz book, but I'd also recommend 'Overcoming Mood Swings' by Jan Scott.
