anxiety related to alcohol Posted: 05-12-08 03:20am
Hey I have severe panic attack and anxiety
and I am currently on paxil and klonopin.
I finally feel like the SSRI they have me
on is working (after some failures with
zoloft and celexa). However it only works
on one condition, I get a great night
sleep. If I don't, I feel like after about
30 minutes of me getting up in the morning
instead of my body feeling tired it starts
to kick into full panic. The other thing
is when I drink the night before and I
wake up about 30 minutes into the day
instead of feeling what I used to with
normal hangover symptoms that I could
easily battle with some tylenol are
instead substituted with an all day
crippling episode. Not even the benzo's
can really help. I'm wondering if anyone
else experiences this problem? And please
don't give me the speech about you need to
stop drinking. I am a college student at a
fraternity house so please get real. I
have already cut back tremendously.
Thanks,
JW

Hey I am also a college student who
experienced MAJOR anxiety after a night of
drinking. I was also a big pot head and
after I would come down I would be jittery
and anxious like I had never experienced
before. It samazing to hear that someone
my age has experineced this too. I had to
quit drinking and drugs all together its
been almost 3 months now and I still
battle extreme anxiety every day. I'm not
telling you to quit drinking because I
cannot STNAD IT when people tell other
people to stop drinking, they just dont
understand college obviously. I would say
that ONLY if you feel like slowing down on
drinking would be a recommendation because
it flushes out your SSRI, but who am I to
talk lol? I guess you could drink a lot of
water before bed. When you wake up in the
morning try to meditate no matter how lame
it sounds. Lay in a comfy s quite area (I
know in a frat it must be hard) and take a
deep breath in through your nose and
exhale for 5 sec. Try to journal or type
why you are anxious. Mine would always be
like " what happened last nite" and really
think and try to pinpoint one thing that
your worried about and talk yourself
through it. I would call my best friend
and vent sometimes but dude just know YOU
ARE NOT ALONE!!!!! Good Luck
