asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 20th, 2009
I am a 33 year old male, have anxiety disorder and treated with Xanor SR .5mg twice daily. I am going to fly from SA to the UK (about 11/12 hours in the air). Does the drug have any side effects at the altitude and do i need to inform anyone other then my fellow travellers? Please assist, i cannot find any information on the package insert or the web site.

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

Well, in all probability there should be no problem on flying. The medicine does not cause any problem at higher altitudes. The only thing to be concerned about is drowsiness. If this side effect is already troubling you then it can become worse with jet lag.

Ideally you should inform the airlines that you are taking this drug under prescription just to be on the safe side. Relax and fly! In all probability there would be no side effects that you need to worry about. Get up once a while to walk around as this is a long flight. Hope this helps. Take care!
