I am very chlostrophobic (sorry about the spelling) and I often get anxious in elevators, closed spaces, etc. but lately I have been feeling onsets of anxiety attacks when i am stuck in traffic. (I have had this happen about twice) I know what causes it: i feel nervous in closed spaces and when i'm in traffic I feel trapped. Does anyone have any advice on learning how to calm down when stuck in traffic? I try to listen to the radio, make calls on my cell phone, anything to keep my mind off of it but it doesnt seem to work! Traffic is a part of everyday life! any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Have you tried breathing practices to calm down? You might want to look into some kind of meditation techniques, because rather than distractions which excite the nervous system (making calls, listening to the radio), meditate distracts the mind to a single focus and relaxes the nervous system.

Are you interested in trying ... because it takes time and work and practice?
