Hi there,
I'm a 27 year old - otherwise normal female. I have been having panic attacks for about three months. The first one was quite severe (while I was driving) and since then it has progressed to a daily event! I have a great job which I love, an awesome husband, who is a counsellor (who is supportive and understanding) and two great but very full on school aged children. I have seen my docotor weekly and he has put me on Xanax which initially took the edge off without making me feel out of it or drowsy at all, however I have found it hard to sleep at night. I do sleep a lot when I can, days/afternoons etc, and probably get more sleep than the average person. I have read books, forums etc and understand that this is all in my head and that I can make it go away.. I just can't phsicaly do it! It feels as if it is taking over my life! I am contemplating quitting my job (I had to leave today as I was "feeling sick" last week I was "dizzy") the excuses are starting to make me feel guilty and I don't know what to do. It seems like a constant worry in the back of my mind that it is either going to happen or hasn't happened yet, therefore the thoughts are always there. I have to give presentations to groups as part of my job and am finding this IMPOSSIBLE! Please help me, someone has to know something that I don't that may help......

Don't be scared of life...Look at yourself as a leader and not a follower...Look at all people as if they are looking up to you...Your life has only just begun...The panic is a part of you that your sub-conscious is trying to win over...Kick her out of your head...She is trying her hardest to make you bend...Tell her to get out of your life and go forward....

Out of this should come a much stronger woman...She is and has been there all the time, but allow her back in...She is in hiding afraid of this person that is trying to take over your soul...Fight her and keep fighting her...Win the battle...I did and you can too...

I send you all my love...

Your fix is within you...Give your medication time to work...Don't look for the stress to happen...This is how the panic works itself into place...Stay calm...Make your mind go to a wonderful place within...A calming sea...A happy moment of the past...Don't let yourself escape to that place of uncertainty...Think of the mircale of the birth of your children...The creation of their life...Go to the comfort of your husband's arms...Let your mind know only good things...

In time you will forget how you got into the panic situation...These memories will disappear just as they came...It, too, will become part of your past...Trust yourself and who you are...

I wish you well....

one additional comment to add to caroline's comments. be very careful NOT to allow this to take you over. what happens is if you allow it, the panic attacks begin to breed phobias.

you get a panic attack in the walmart for example, so you avoid going to walmart. then next time it's the car, and next time it's going down the driveway to the mailbox. you have to push yourself to keep from breeding these phobias as a result of having panic.

seems like panic only happens to strong women. it brings them to their knees. you will come out of this stronger! have faith in yourself and your ability to fight this off! you can do it!

best!

panic attacks
Hi there

Panic attacks occur when the brain thinks it is being attacked. When this happens the fight or flight center of the brain thinks something bad is about to happen, and it triggers the release of large amounts of adrenalin to cope with the perceived attack by preparing the body for running away or fighting, hence the term fight or flight.
This is what happens in an allergic reaction. Once food enters the mouth, the tastebuds on the tongue send signals to the brain about the bio-chemistry of the food. If the brain recognises the bio-chemistry it activates the functions of the digestive system such as the release of acids and enzymes in the stomach, the release of bile from the gallbladder, juices and insulin from the pancreas, peristaltia of the gut, and so on.
When the brain does NOT recognise the substance on your tongue as beneficial but detrimental to your wellbeing the brain activates the immune system, and prepares the body for fight or flight as mentioned above.
This is the situation that you find yourself in! Does this make sense?
Your brain thinks you are being attacked all the time!
Now we need to find out which substance activates your brain into fight or flight syndrome. It is an allergic reaction that does this.
Most of us, once weaned, become allergic to cows milk, because we stop producing an enzyme , lactase, necessary for the digestion of the milk sugar, called lactose. Every OSE needs an ASE to be digested. Maltose needs maltase, sucrose needs sucrase and lactose needs lactase, which we haven't got!
Avoid all dairy products like the plague, and take a Zinc supplement. 100 Mg daily with your main meal. Zinc is the fuel your glandular system works on, and your glandular system is part of your immune system.
See the connection?

Thank you for all f your advise!!! I have been trying to "face it" rather than avoiding "it" forthe past 2 days, and athough it has been hard.. the severity has lessened with just believing that it i "ok" and "it will pass" and it does!! I know Im not actually going to die!!! I have also listened to some hypnosis techniques and cut out caffiene and smoked minimal cigarettes and abstained from alcohol, which has seemed to work also... Though I still feel crampy between the top of my ribs (sternem area) wondering if it is just tension. Still taking the 0.5 Xanax in the morning and at midday, skipping the evening dose when I can (used for 1 month) and taking the Pristiq at night (day 4) and have been less teary regarding it all. I'v also been writing out positive affermations to try and get the thoughts to sink in. (eg. I will have a happy and clam day, or I am strong and can conquer this!) That seems to work, if not only for distraction!!! thank you for all taking the time to help me out!!! I'm feeling a lot more positive!!! Smile YAY
