Q: Anxiety and its symptoms
asked by: DoctorQuestion on June 5th, 2008
What do you think? what do I do?
For the past week or so, I have been feeling anxious. It started, I think, because I was feeling a little unsure about my relationship and weather or not I wanted to be in it, and everytime I thought about or saw my boyfriend, my stomach would knot up, I would salivate, too much, things like that that people sometimes get when they are nervous or are lying. I came to the conclusion that I want to remain with him (he is very wonderful) but I continue to feel the anxiety. I feel that when I think about the fact that I had anxious feelings (thoughts just occur) I feel it again. Then my brain can't stop thinking about anxiety and I get worried that I will feel this way all the time. I watched a movie (happy non stressful one) and felt completely strung out and worried about my psychological state. I am thinking too much and can't stop it, and I am worried now that I am developing an anxiety disorder. lately experienced chest pain, jaw is messed up. >?

List of other diseases, conditions, or injuries and their treatment: possible anxiety (have not been to doctor) jaw problem on right side of jaw frequent stomach uneasiness, some diarrhea

It is obvious that you feel anxiety and anxiety can cause all your symptoms but first real (organic) disorders should be excluded.

Your digestive symptoms (stomach uneasiness and diarrhea) could be due to anxiety but before blaming anxiety you should have certain medical examinations performed to exclude gastro-intestinal disorders like gastritis, peptic ulcer, intestinal infection, etc. You need to have a physical examination, standard blood tests and Helicobacter pillory-serology completed first.

Chest pain can also be due to anxiety but I think you should have an ECG first.

Jaw problems can be due to TMJ-syndrome (which can be related to anxiety) but you should consult a dentist first about it.
