A little background. My smallest weight was 120 pounds at 10 (if I'm lucky). Eating had always been an issue, I had struggled my entire life almost with weight. By the time I was 16 I stopped eating altogether and managed to weigh 160 (weighed 200). I still had a problem, just didn't know it. I was told you don't eat as many calories as you take in and exercise. However, my mind if I didn't eat any calories and exercise I would lose the weight I need. I didn't know it was unhealthy for me until my dad explained to me what I was doing. So I tried my best to do it right. However, eating has been a problem for me. Fast forward to today 10 years later. I had weighed 275 when I found out I was preggo with my daughter. I was then diagnosed with a thyroid problem. Once they put me on hypothyroid meds I automatically went down to 235 and weighed that until my daughter was born. I then went down to 230. All this time I was eating no more than 2000 calories (much the time eating about 1800). Then I had gallbladder surgery and went back up to 255. I had struggled then went back to 245. April 16 of 2008 went on phentermine. Now fast forwarding to now, I am dealing again with self image and am struggling with binge, purge. I had thought this had passed, now I am off phen because I know that until I get myself in check I will again suffer with these problems. As of now I am struggling with not binging and purging. I am trying a healthy 1200 calorie diet, but find I am struggling with it. Is it usual for eating disorders to come back after years of dealing with it. Anyone, who has experienced this does it ever go away?

Well, to be honest, no, it doesn't go away. You have to make the choice whether you are going to listen to the voices of the ED, or not. Plus, you've put a lot of the eating disorder focus on food and weight- why not seek out treatment to deal with the real issues that lie deeper down?

I'll also point out that 1200 calories is only sufficient for a woman who is completely bed-ridden, and not lifting a finger. It's not "healthy", as you put it. Your body has a set point that it can be at, and anything lower, and your body goes into the "fast then feast" mode. It takes a LOT of time to start eating intuitively again, so be patient with yourself! /hugs
