Anal fissures

Hi, ive had this problem for many years (fissures), and nothing really has kept it away for long. However theres a product called hemoclin, its like a gel you use with this injector thing. That does seem very good and relieving, however it is expensive at about 14 quid.
But i think in my case the only thing that will likely cure me is surgery.
Can i ask, people who have had the surgery, how long does it take, and how have you found it?.
Can you ask your doctor to refer you or do they say whether too or not. I dont really want surgery if im honest, but i want to more or less get rid of fissures for more long term and not just a quick fix.
Sorry for the long essay, thanks folks.

Hi Wayne1983 and welcome to ehealth....My husband also had fissures...He had the surgery to both rid them and repair the damage that was done inside from time causing deeper wounds...He saw a Colorectal Specialist who did the surgery....He was referred by another Internal Medicine Physician...

He waited too long...His surgery was rough and it took time for him to heal...Hope this helps...Take care...

I suffered many years with the fissure, but it's in an area that keeps getting infected, so you need to have the surgery to repair the tear and mend the canal that fills up with infection. It was out patient, and not a bad recovery. That was 15 years ago, and it never returned.

Thank you for that. From what i can gather, it doesnt seem a nice operation, although quickish, and least its out patient.
I just want to get it over with quickish, ive gone on too long, and then i feel like i can get back to 'normal'.

Hi again Wayne1983...It is a quick surgery, however, my husband had put this off far too long...It wasn't all his fault, but when finally seen by a specialist, he was close to needing a Colonoscopy....This was about 25 years ago and I am sure improvements have been made, but it is nothing to fool around with...Take care...

Been to the docs and am getting reffered, which should be within 6 weeks he says which is good. Then he says any op should be fairly quick there after.
I feel relieved that ive been and have now got wheels in motion to hopefully get better, (although i will dread the operation lol).
Thanks for your help and advice people.
