im very frustrated and worried. 18 yr old daugh chromic illness and always gets headache fever sore throat achey joints after coming into contact with a cat. sometomes lasts a few days, other times 10-14 days. has gone on sice 2 yrs old. has had some serious illnesses lately bad bad headache stiff neck joint pain and high fever, hurt to breathe in her chest and said her face hurt all for 72 hours then tired for a month and bruises last a month. doc was dismissive and someone told me i should ask for ana... it came back positive and they didnt do the titer.. said it is speckled. low c4 should be .18 - .25 and it came back at .17 which is deemed low. low white vlood cell has been going back to at least 2003 3.5 to 4.1. Was refered to a rheumie where she said that she isnt going to make a diagnosis as liver and kidney tests are fine. She said that she is healthy right now and sounds like she should avoid cats. She said that she does not see active lupus and will not request any further testing. She said she cant say that she wont get lupus but for now she can whole heartedly say she doesnt have it.
I did not feel like i cud talk to the doc. My daugh is resisitant of considering any type of illness.. I told doc that I wanted to find out whats up so that it can be treated early if there is something, or if there is anything to be done in terms of preventative action. She said no and there is nothing to do.
She said many ppl have pos ana and her platelets are good so bruising should be normal and said c4 isnt really that low and low white blood is common in lots of ppl and this doesnt mean lupus..
In all me research i have found that these things do mean lupus but wondering if its possivle to have these factors and never have anything develop? In canada you cant just say I wud like to see an different doc, so its not an option. I was also reading that the diagnosis in itself can be devastating. Was thinking that the doc weighed out what wed be worse and felt it was better left alone at this time... Does anyone have any feedback, I wud realy appreciate it...

Positive ANA results doesn't mean a lupus diagnosis, since they can be positive in other autoimmune, infections and cancer disease.
The speckle is the most common pattern.
Low white blood count is considered the onw when the white blood cells are less than 3,500 white blood cells per microliter of blood.
There are different causes for decreased numbers of CD4 levels like infections, trauma, stress, daily variations, malnutrition and sometimes for no apparent reason.
Easily bruising or prolonged bruises can be due to low platelets count or due to impaired platelets function.
Underactive thyroid gland or hypothyroidism can be a reason for prolonged bruising, too.
