Q: Am I Pregnant ?
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 29th, 2009
Hi. I had my last period on the 21st September and I worked out that I would be ovulating on around the 10th October. I had unprotected sex on the 10th and again on the 11th. And every time since then. Though not every day. It is now the 29th October and I still havent had my period. Im experiencing some slight tenderness in my tummy but nothing too painful and I havnt had any spotting of any kind. I feel very emotional but again not on an everyday basis. I do find myself snapping at my other two daughters a lot usually over nothing. But im a single mum and not sure if this is just stress. I do have a partner but he doesnt live with me. I find myself feeling hungry constantly which isnt like me at all and Iv recently gone off my favourite alchoholic drink. I feel quite sickly a lot of the time too. But iv done a LOT of pregnancy tests and theyve all been negative. Iv spent a fortune on them. Could I just be testing to early? Or could I just be kidding myself cos Im so desperate? Thanks

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

If you have a cycle of 30 days then you should have ovulated around 6th of Oct. In which case, you probably would not be pregnant as you had unprotected sex 4 days later. However if your ovulation was expected around 10th then you could be.

Missed period, constantly feeling hungry, going off your favorite alcoholic drink, tummy ache can all be signs of pregnancy. Snapping at your daughters and being emotional could be due to stress. Since the home pregnancy tests are negative, there is every possibility that you are not pregnant. However if you need to confirm then you can repeat the test at a lab or a doctor’s or go for an ultrasound.

Hypothyroidism, contraceptive pills and polycystic disease of the ovary can cause delayed or missed periods. Pituitary tumors secreting prolactin can also cause such problems. Anemia and poor diet are other reasons for delayed or missed periods. These causes for delayed periods should be looked into.

It is difficult to comment beyond this on net. Discuss these possibilities with your gynecologist. Hope this helps. Take care!
