Q: Althea pills start-up
asked by: DoctorQuestion on October 20th, 2009
My doc advised me to take althea pills during the 1st day of my menstrual cycle.
I'm confused between the difference of the interval of the 7tablet free days according to prescription and starting new pack at the 1st day of cycle(let's say my period started after 9 days from the 21days with pills)
[1] Does that affect much on the risk of pregnancy during the tablet free days considering that I exceeded "7 tablet free days"?
[2] Do I have to follow the instruction of using condom during the 1st 7 days?
[3]Any advise/clarification?

Hello and welcome to eHealth Forum!

Usually the periods start within the seven days of tablet free time. Then you have to start the pills on the first day of the period. Well, if it is instructed then you have to use condoms during the first seven days then you have to use it for safety. If your periods start after the seven days of the tablet free period, then you should consult your gynecologist.

Either the hormonal composition is not suiting you or there is some other problem that needs to be looked at. It is difficult to comment beyond this on net or give a confirmed diagnosis. Hope this helps. Take care!
