Q: alternative to cutting

I have heard that if a person writes/draws (with RED ink) on the part of their body where they feel the urge to cut... it will sometimes help. I guess by maybe tricking the brain into thinking there is a cut there - the red ink representing the blood (?) Has anyone tried this?

I have not tried this, but I doubt it would have worked for me. I used to cut for the pain, not the blood. So I keep a rubber band around my wrist and snap it every time I get the urge to cut. But I think the red marker it would be great for others to at least try once....you never know, it may help. Smile

I haven't tried it either. But I have heard about it, and thought it might hopefully help someone else.
I am like you, and I cut for the pain, but I do the rubber band thing too.

You should try it with food coloring and the dull side of a butter knife. That way you get the visual of a knife across the skin without it actually harming you, and food coloring is runny and looks a lot more like blood than a marker which just looks like a straight line.

I have heard of a few methods.

Ice
Red Pen
Elastic Band

If you want a list of alternative methods to SI then please pm me and I will ask the admin if I can put a list up of another forum which sometimes does help/

Self harm alternatives
I have tried alot of these methods and non of them work, if your wanting to cut how can you go into the kitchen and put pen or food coouring on yourself when you are wanting to cut. When your in such a frame of mind you dont think of going to the kitchen ect, you think of going and getting somthing sharp and feeling the pain or seeing the blood, which ever helps you. I was daft enough to try these and they didnt prevail. Im sure we all want to stop cutting but how do we do that. Im not sure about any of you people but i dont fancy going to a doctor about it!
If anyone has any new suggestions i'l gladly try them out. Hope everyone is ok....

i tried this method when i was cutting and it didn't work, but after recovery (i haven't cut in probably a year or so) i got an urge and just so happened to be painting with red paint and i painted my entire arm with red lines and i did it just as hard and fast as i would have while cutting and it really did work..so yeah, hope that helps :p

the best way to stop cutting is to get happy, easier said than done, but never impossible.
