You'll need a box, a fan, a pot, some dirt, a light (CFL if you're concerned about electric), some time and some luck. If you're only doing one plant, you've got a chance that it will be a male, not that you can't practice just by growing it but you'll be putting in a bit of effort for zero return if you get a male. Maybe do two, just to help your odds. If you going on the cheap for the first go round, get some swamp lights ( the clamp type with the aluminum bowl reflector ) throw in the compact fluorescent bulbs and off ya go.
