So I turn 18 soon and I'm scared I could possibly be pregnant. I come from a family that would be so disappointed if I was and I have always tried to be safe. I have been on birth control pills for 3 months. I take them on time every day. We had sex on the 2nd. No condom, but he pulled out and I was on my birth control. I was about 3 pills into my new pack. I started them at the correct time and day right after my period like I have been. I am still taking them ontime now as well. I assumed everything was fine until lately. It is now the 10th and I have been having consistent cramps for about 3 days. Almost like gas cramps and my menstral cramps. My breasts have become mildly sore as well. I am not supossed to get my period for another 2 weeks so I don't think they are PMS. I just don't understand how my birth control could have failed me. It's to early to take a test. I just want to know if there is anyway I could be pregnant. I'm very scared for my future and I know I need to be more careful.

M, there is no good reason to suppose that your birth control has failed you. Two weeks before the next period is when ovulation normally occurs and if the egg were fertilized it would be another week before any signs were felt. I think you are experiencing a side effect of the bc pills. Keep taking them as directed and all will be well. If you want an additional layer of protection you could use condoms or vaginal spermicide as backup.

My breasts are a lot more sore now and I seem to have a clear/white discharge should that be anything of concern?

M, it is true that unusual sore breasts and lotion discharge are early signs of pregnancy, but starting two weeks before your expected period makes me think the signs relate to an unusual ovulation. Wait until your period is due before running a home pregnancy test. I still expect it to be negative.

Buhle, you might want to run a home pregnancy test when your period was originally due. Use first morning pee. A birth control mishap early in January would likely be responsible.
