i am experiencing a slight salty taste. water tastes slightly salty now. i had a cup of tea and it was salty.

i have only been on the drug for a week and it seems to be the only side effect so far for me.

how does this drug effect other peoples taste buds?

does this go away? i hope it doesn't get worse with time!

At the moment, clinicians claim that for gout, allopurinol is the best current treatment. Although I haven't read about changes in taste as a side effect of allopurinal, keep an eye out for these more serious symptoms and call your doctor if these symptoms become severe.

* Drowsiness
* Unusual hair loss
* Headache
* Indigestion
* Stomach pain
* Diarrhea
* Nausea (accompanied by a skin rash - this is serious)

If you have questions about particular side effects, contact your doctor...you can even call into the office. You may also report side effects to the FDA at http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/ or 1-800-FDA-1088 (1-800-332-1088).
