allergy treatments - health insurance won't cover Allegra
Posted: 03-23-08 11:22am

Hello, I need some serious help if anyone could lend some suggestions.

I've been taking Alegra on a daily basis for around six months or so. Then I received a letter saying that my health insurance would no longer cover it.

When I don't take the medicine, I get horrible headaches where it is nearly impossible to even concentrate. With the medicine, I'm able to do just about everything, my high school grades were so high. Now they are dropping.

I've taken an allergy test and the only substance I'm allergic to is dust. My house is clean, though. I don't really know why I have them.

I've taken Claritin - it doesn't help at all.

Does any have any recommendations for me? Any specific OTC drugs that would help? Thank you so much

Dust may contain molds, fibers, and dander from dogs, cats, and other animals, as well as tiny dust mites. All of these particles can cause allergic reactions, especially dust mites with their waste products. Dust mites are tiny living creatures found in bedding, mattresses, carpeting and upholstered furniture. They live on dead skin cells and other things found in house dust.
What other symptoms you have?
Do you have air cleaner installed?
Have you talk with your doctor about allergy shots?

The only symptom I have is a constant headache in the sinus region. It just feels like there is constant pressure.

I've not talked about allergy shots; I don't know much about them. I will look them up.

And the air cleaner also sounds like a great idea, I've never had one installed before.

My parents thought that maybe the allergies could be from my mattress, which was relatively old, but we just had it replaced and there isn't much of a difference.

Thank you for your response. Sorry I didn't respond earlier.

You are welcome!
Sorry for my delayed response, too.
How do you feel?
Do you usually complain of sinus headaches in mornings?

Try Zyrtec. It is now OTC. I had a prescription for it years ago, but after a while it stopped working so now I'm on other meds, but try it. Good luck!
