Q: allergy symptoms and treatment options
asked by: DoctorQuestion on November 15th, 2008
Everytime treatments slightly improve the symptoms respiratory but they have become chronics and tend to react less to the treatment. I cannot find the underlying cause of this almost permanent malaise. The skin purpura on the leg has not improved despite treatment.

Can you please help find the underlying cause so that I can treat it properly? Any clues?

Allergies Answer A4912
Current medical status: Recurrent symptoms: phelgm, chest tightness, headaches, diarrhea, shortness breath, fatigue, eczema, skin rash in the lower leg (last diagnosed as lichen aureus) and during the last 3/4 years recurrent UTIs, chalazions in the eyes.
Current medical treatment: Latest blood and urine tests ok. Has several scans for urinary track and sinuses (nothing found). Have been treated with various antibiotics, antihistamines, prednisone, topical steroids, mucinex and pain killers.

No data was given about any environmental allergens. Various skin and blood allergy tests can be performed to determine the exact allergen. Unfortunately, if the allergen causing you allergy symptoms is not in the test panels, than it cannot be determined.

Look for the aspirin, for the acetylsalicylic acid or certain of its homologous can be found in many substances.

Medications that are used for allergies include: corticosteroids, antihistamines, decongestants for nasal and sinus congestion, cromolyn sodium and leukotriene modifiers. Your doctor might want to add the last two to your current medications.
