Hi, I have a track record for NASTY allergies, compounded by asthma I've had since I was very young. Sometimes I forget to take my allergy medicine, asthma medicine, or both, but usually, as long as I remember to the day after, I do fine. Well, last night I forgot to take both again, and I took my allergy meds this morning as per directions, and I need a refill on my asthma medication, which I'm picking up today. Thing is, I have the worst cough I've had in YEARS. It was more than 2 years ago (I don't even remember how long it's been) since I had a cough this bad. I can't seem to stop coughing; I cough about 2-3 times per minute, always coughing up mucus, but it's started to taste nasty, my throat, and now larynx and lungs hurt, and I just feel awful. I've started sucking on cough drops, and they seem to be helping a little, but I still am having very bad burning chest pain.

Is this just due to perhaps my allergens being worse than usual today, or could there be a more dubious cause? I didn't feel bad until about 2 hours ago, which was an hour after waking.

Cough drops are helping with the coughing, but I still have a sore/burning throat, chest, and upper lungs. Still don't know why coughing was so severe.
