I had this allergy as a young child. I would eat a lot of Heinz ketchup and then my face would get this red rash all over. When I was about 8 or so the allergy disappeared and I was able to eat it again. I was able to eat it until I was 17. I was sitting in the school lunchroom eating fries, with ketchup duh. My school happens to only serve Heinz products. I went back to class after eating it and my friends told me I looked really red all over. I went into the bathroom and looked in the mirror and discovered that I was breaking out with hives. I called my brother to bring me some Benadryl and that made the hives go away. I tried to eat ketchup the next day and the same thing happened, only slightly worse. I am able to eat every other brand out there but just not Heinz. I don't know if its some kind of preservative or something. I was just wondering if anyone else had to deal with this. It does make life a little harder because almost every single restaurant serves Heinz because its cheaper. I have actually found a couple of restaurants that serve off brands but not many.

Allergic to Heinz ketchup
Hi,

I have never been allergic to Heinz Ketchup until just this last bottle I bought. The only thing that I know that I am allergic to is red food coloring such as that in koolaid and the reaction I'm getting from this ketchup is the same as I get from koolaid. The Ketchup label doesn't say anything about food coloring so I guess it's one of those things that makes you go "Hmmmm".

yess you are hypersensitive. next time, get benadryl from mthe school nurse. you dont know if the next reaction will be an anaphylactic one.

Thanks anyways
Well it doesn't matter anymore because I'm now in my first semester at junior college. I just tend to avoid that brand all together. Thanks for the advice though. Benadryl does work wonders for the hives.
