I suffer with allergic rhinitis due to being allergic to house dust mites. I've recently seen an ENT specialist who prescribed me a nasal corticosteroid which he said if the spray wasn't working after a month, I would need to have surgery.
I have been taking antihistamines (chlorphenamine maleate) every 4-6 hours (excluding sleep) for the past 1-2 years. With this I have also taken other nasal sprays to help relieve my symptons but other than stopping me sneezing, nothing seems to be really helping with the swelling around my eyes.
The symptoms I suffer from are the usual (runny nose, nasal congestion, sneezing) but its the swelling around my eyes that gets to me the most. All day, everyday I have swelled eye lids (worst on my right eye) and purple/blue swelling under my eyes with little dots. With allergies that effect the eyes, symptoms include itchy, watery, red eyes although I do suffer with itchy, watery eyes now and again, I never would say my eyes are red.
What I want to know is, could my eye symptoms be linked with my allergic rhinitis inflammation rather than just my eyes reacting to the house dust mite allegen and also, with the surgery to do with allergic rhinitis. After having surgery will the swelling around/under my eyes go down or am I stuck with this?
