A few years ago I took 2 Aleve's on an empty stomach and in less then 40 minutes later I was in the emergency room with a severe allergic reaction. Hives all over the neck and chest, lips and tongue swelling, and very painful finger tips as if they were swollen 10x in size and frozen.
After an I.V. and a lot of medication the symptoms went away.
Since that event I am too paranoid to buy any other over the counter painkillers because I am so scared this might happen again.

Right now I need an anti inflammatory medication and I just don't know what to get?
What is safe to take?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

You are right about complete avoiding of NSAID.
Tylenol(acetaminophen) is safely tolerated and is considered the drug of choice in NSAID-allergic patients.
You should consult your physician before taking any medicine, cause there are huge variety of medications that contain aspirin or related NSAIDs.
