The last few morning, I have woke up with major sweeling in both arms from elbows down to my fingers (to the point where I cannot make a fist), my stomach is swollen, my hips hurt so bad, my legs and ankles are swollen, and even my face swells to a degree. I have carpal tunnel in both wrists, so the swelling makes the pain unbearable. I have been trying to drink a lot of water, but it only helps to an extent. When I wake up I am COMPLETELY MISERABLE to the point I want to cry. I have been under a lot of stress lately, but I don't think that would cause it. I am on Effexor, Hydroxycut and Percocet.... I have been on these for quite some time, so I don't think it's that combination, but why all of a sudden? I have about 7-8 pounds of water weight in my body and I'm so tired and swollen. I have had to take my wedding rings off at night because yesterday I woke up and my hand was so swollen my ring finger was nearly purple and I couldn't get my ring off (now, my rings are VERY big on my to the point I'm always afraid I am going to lose them) now overnight I swell up SO bad.

Anyone have any ideas? My doctor is a quack and doesn't know crud. I'm only 26 YEARS OLD. What in the world is going on? Please, any advice would be wonderful. Thank you so much.

Does the abdominal swelling include pain, vomiting and diarrhea?
For how long the swelling persists during the day?

I get face eye and leg swelling periodically and I think its related to food intolerance. Try getting your diet down to a few very simple foods, like rice, one meat and one vegetable for a couple of days. Then slowly add one new food at a time every three days. I did that and found that boxed foods with preservatives is the culprit for me and for some reason, chinese food. I don't know if there is a common element but Im thinking its msg or similar substance. Some people have trouble digesting glutens. Ask to be tested for celiac disease. Good luck, hope you figure out whats causing it. Doctors are no help. I am a nurse, I know slews of doctors and I still had to figure this out for myself.

Body swelling
I too have been doing a bit of research on this issue. I have been suffering from full body edema for the past 6 years and I still have no answers. I've seen numerous GPs but none of them could help me. I've also been treated by a vascular surgeon and numerous specialists of differing fields. I've had blood and urine tests for protein deficiency / hormones / thyroid / diabetes / renal function / liver function / etc, as well as an abdo CT / lymphocintograph and numerous dopler ultrasounds, all with normal resuilts. I'm currently seeking treatment from a Chinese herbalist but so far the results haven't been promising.

It started with swelling in the legs on a daily basis in late 2003, and quickly progressed to include an occasional full body swell - right up to my face. During this time, I was using contraception via the depo ralavera injection followed by implanon with a lengthy break in between of no contraception, all with similar swelling symptoms. Since having the implanon removed in January 2009, my swelling has been getting worse. I am swollen every single day with a full body swell monthly. It's gotten to the stage where I don't even know what my normal body looks like anymore. I have the pitting edema in my legs and non-pitting edema everywhere else. I often get a distended abdomen during my full body swell and I find my swelling worse after I work night-shifts. Back in April I gained 6 kgs over a period of 2 days due to fluid retention and I have not managed to lose any of this weight over the past 7 months.

I am an otherwise healthy person who exercises daily, running 10km 4-5 times a week as well as light weights and cycling. I have a very healthy diet consisting of mainly fruit and veg with very little processed foods. I don't smoke and rarely drink alcohol. I am a 27 year old female and, after 6 years of swelling, I'm finding it very taxing on my emotions. I would dearly appreciate hearing if anyone has found out any more information.

Body/Face Swelling
Does this happen more so around your period time? if so look up menstration and allergies. My partner has a more severe form of this where everytime she menstrates she gets anaphylaxis from foods, body sprays, drinks or just the air.

In the beginning she was like clockwork for her period and the swelling was phenomanal. She could not open her eyes, they were small slits. Her face looked like the elephant man. We did not put two an two together for 8 years.

We did research on the anaphylaxis when someone suggested the same thing to us. Well we believe it exisits but many doctors have not heard of this and may tell you it is not true. But we persisted and found a doctor that had vaguely heard of something like this and decided to test her with a suppository with a minor level of progesterone and she reacted.

So now we wait for a gynaecology appointment to discuss the findings.

Swelling free for 2 years
IT IS ASPARTAME or MSG!!! That stuff is poison! I swelled for years and years and no one could figure it out. Then I started to have panic attacks. Then my face went numb and the doctor sent me for an mri. They thought I had ms. That is when it clicked.

Look up aspartame and side effects and also Dr. Blaylock. I have been swell free for 2 years now!!! It is hard as they put it in 5000 different foods! Read teh lables and look for it in the code words, ie sucralose, etc.
