Alcohol can raise uric acid levels and provoke an episode of gout. Drinking at least 10-12 eight-ounce glasses of non-alcoholic fluids every day is recommended, especially for people with kidney stones, to help flush the uric acid crystals from the body.

Alcohol can also exacerbate sleep apnea, which can cause a gout flare.

There is some debate. Some say, rum may not cause gout. Also there are some who say Shochu(Japanese alcohol) does not cause gout. But again that is debateable.

Drink you alcohol with water chasers.
