Hi everyone, bear with my typing as my right hand is still all bandaged up. I had the surgery on my dominant hand on Friday. 2 hours leter than I was scheduled, so I had all that waiting room anziety for that much longer. The time finally came and the surgery was nothing like I had read online. It was more like a scary back alley abortion clinic. There were a bunch of nurses and the surgeon, who never even said boo to me. They had me lay on the table fully dressed with my shoes on even.
The stretched out my arm, gave me no warning and injected the numbing local. OMG that was THE worst pain I have ever experienced in my netire life. I nearly screamed and I have a heck of a high pain threshold. 3 shots for the local. After he was done he laughed at me and said oh didnt i give you enough warning? (Like I said he never greeted me and he was really an ass, and i got the distinct impression he truly hated my guts for some reason.) So he held my arm up, and there was blood dripping down it form the where he stuck the local needle, so the pain wasn't my imagination.

I felt no pain during the main surgery but I felt, or heard (i'm really not sure what sensatin I was experiencing) what sounded or felt like bone being scraped. No pain or discomfort, just a weird pressure or sound. At one time he hit soemthing and I felt a jolt of pain all down my arm, but I cnat say if it was pain or just surprise at feeling something.

about 6 minutes, he was finsihed and bandaging me up. They finally released the toutnequet and my entire arm felt cold as the blood rushed back into ita nd my fingers all tingly.

They satme upa nd I felt woozy for a minute or two. A nurse gave me my prescription, the surgeon said follow up at his office in 3 weeks and Physio in 2 and that was it. I was shoved out the door and sent on my way.

I got my T3 prescription filled. My friends drove me home and that was that, they dumped me on my porch and left me.

my fingers were all numb and swollen, I had asked the surgeon how long the local should last and he said less than an hour. So 8 hours later I was getting pretty worried when no feeling had returned at all. My room mate left me for dead and went to work so I ahve been here 2 days fending for myself. I am starving cause i still cant open anything, but thank god I expected the desertion by my friends and bought myself some of those snack platters so i wouldnt die of starvation completely.

So, about 18 hours later my feeling came back. I was smart and popped the t3s and slept through the majority of it. I felt in my pointer finger as the nerves started itching and i couldnt scratch it. the day after the surgery, my pam started aching, who would thikn the numbing would be a blessing huh? I couldnt lift a thing with my hand, and now today I find i am able to lift a wee bit more. Not much of course, but I ma able to type without excrutiating pain. I find 2 T3s seem to actually work which surprisedme. later today i am allowed to take off my big bandage, but I am debating leaving it on due to the fact of how tender it still feels. It feels like my wrist may be bruiced up but I wont know til i get the bandage off. I'll keep you posted on the recovery. So far, considering how bad that su rgery seemed, it seems to be healing well. I am getting good hand motion and my fingers arent as stiff anymore. I have apicture of the bandaginga nd will take a shot of the wound itself for nayone who wants to see what they may be in for. its not as scary as i actually expected. Well, the ambience could have been better but I mean the after healing aspects. Rolling Eyes

Hi everyone, it's been 2 weeks since my surgerya nd I wanted to post an update for you.

I had the stitches removed on Thursday, so 1 day before my 2 weeks were up. During the week they had been ripping through my hand as the surgeon had done 1 long continuous stitch as opposed to multiple single ones, so anytime I use dmy hadn or lifted something a bit too heavy it forced a stitch to tear through my hand. Quite painful, but tolerable. So I had them removed 2 days early, and it tunred out I had gotten an infection during the initial stitching so I am now on 10 days of antibiotics.

As for the wound itself, the first day was completely numb except for the odd nerve itching underneith. Feeling kicked bcak in about 18 hours later. I didnt have a whiole lot of pain except for the expected if I tried to use my hand. having 5 animals there is always one or another sitting on th bed when you wnat to go to sleep, so some lifting was just unavoidable. by day 4 or so I was able to do some dishes. not able to lift too much yet, but able to accomplish small tasks.

By a week I was making light meals and able to start getting lids off things again. That was an exciting day. I was able to make my own instant coffee.

I was supposed to be back at work that Monday (the surgery was the Friday) so just over 1 week, but I took 2 more days off because I knew I wouldnt be able to really get dressed too well yet. The thought of pulling up a pair of jeans or hooking a bra just didnt appeal to me. So wednesday I was back at work. I was able to type andthings but luckily my boss had people to do all my work that day so i just had to stand around and look pretty and boss people around. Thursday I got my stitches out during work hours, and was able to do a bit more work. If I hold a box flat I am alright with lifting it assuming its not really heavy. I left any packing and any folding or stapling to my trusty helpers.

So all in all, 2 weeks and 1 day after the surgery on my dominant hand, I have tenderness at the insicion spot of course, driving hurts so I try not to use that hand on the steering wheel as much as possible, and the worst pain is the wrist right at the base of the palm. If I move that too much or try to lift or pull naything heavy i feel the muscles in there and where they had to cut it to free up the tunnel. Its a strange feeling actually, and sometimes the pain will radiate up the palm a bit, like with typing. the insision is very dry and the skin is peeling aorund it, but Im not sure if thats form the infefection or just because the stitches are out and it is finally able to flatten out again. I also have tons of itching of the nerves inside the wrist and the palms which is very frustrating.

Once the dryness goes away and it starts to get back to normal i don't think Im even going to have a noticeable scar. Looking at it and I cna barely see where the cut was made which is quite surprising. Definately get the surgery done by a plastic surgeon if you can. I dont know what he did but it was done well.

I have full gripping ability and I think more strength than before the surgery. I am getting tempurature sensatin back for the first time in 2 years. No more pain up the arm except for obvious surgical pain now and then. and I go to see my surgeon for the follow up on Tuesday. All in all, a very good surgical outcome, and considering its only been 2 weeks and I am almost back to my old hand use, I am quite impressed.

I will liekly get the date for my other hand on Tuesday. My only fear for the second surgery, after the first is the darn local. Once you get past that needle pain, then for me it was all clear sailing. And the fact I couldnt make food for myself and was stuck munching, I even lost 6 pounds! Extra bonus!
