Sir I had Inaugural hernia on my right side of groin i consulted doctor he suggested me to go for surgery but i am afraid of the pain and discomfort after surgery till how many months the discomfort may exist and i am an athlete does it cause any problem after surgery to my profession(when running and playing sports) please answer me

Hello and welcome to e health forum.

You need not be worried about the surgery effects on your profession. You can carry on with it, after due rest and time for effective healing (at least 4 weeks) of the surgery site.

The actual surgery, will mostly take about 1-2 hours, and will be done with minimal access surgery and small incisions. You can be discharged from hospital within the next 24 - 48 hours after the procedure.

Pain medications and anti inflammatory medications will reduce the pain, and help in quick healing. The discomfort post surgery may not last more than 3 weeks post surgery.
