I recently had a brief encounter with a guy. Some kissing, some oral sex. He then told me he was HIV positive.
I usually don't freak out and stayed relatively calm. There was no ejaculation, though he said he had had one already, and we showered before the oral sex.

nonetheless, my anxiety level has spiked and I'm imagining all kinds of symptoms. plan on getting tested soon, but should I steel myself for some potentially bad news?

It's possible, but not as likely as if you've had intercourse. This link from the CDC goes in to detail about it.
