Q: Adult orthodontic dental insurance?

Hey all,

I'm looking to have some major surgery done. I have a malocclusion causing a severe mismatch between my upper and lower jaw. As a part of the surgery, I'm going to need some braces. But I have yet to find any solid evidence on how to start looking for this sort of thing, at 26. I live in Pennsylvania, and I have Aetna, as an individual, and they had said something about dental coverage but apparently no ortho.

Anyone have any ideas where to start? Most of the dental plans I find searching look like spam or probably are spam. I could probably spend a couple of hours calling insurance companies, but I don't want to start that goose chase just yet, if I can avoid it. Should I just find a way to plunk down all the cash or is there a company that will cover some of the cost?

Thanks,
- Farley

May I suggest you contact your dentist office and the might be able to give you a few ideas about what insurance companies they have experience with that pays what services or they could direct you to who might be able to help.
