I am coming up on my 33rd birthday, married, with kids.

I was not circumcised as an infant and am now would like to get it done. I have discussed my wishes with my wife and she said she is happy with whichever decision I make. I had a vasectomy in 2004, so I have had some work done down there (and it wasn't that bad). I am sure circumcision is much "worse" than the vasectomy, but at least it wouldn't be the first time I've had injections or incisions in that region of my body.

Has anybody here had the procedure done as an adult? Did you opt for local or general anesthesia? How long did it take for you to recover and get back to your normal life (sexually and otherwise)? Did you have stitches, or is there another method of closure for adults (gomco clamp)? How much time off work did you take (and what did you tell your employer to get excused)?

I am not looking for adivce whether I should do it, or not. I think I am old enough to make an informed consent.

Thank you.

I haven't had this done myself but am considering it.

I think the procedure is usually done under general anaesthesia. Initial recovery is a few days, 4-6 weeks then until the sensitivity goes away. It may take as long as six months to get completely used to it as far as sexual performance. It's likely stitches will be used and naturally this will take longer to heal up. Consult your doctor for more info.

Adult Circumcision
I had the procedure done when I was 27; after already having 3 kids by my wife. It's not bad once you get over the anesthesia part which for me consisted of several sticks of a needle in various parts of the scrotum and penis to ensure you're good and numb. Once numb, you will feel the pulling and prodding as they remove the addional skin. Like for me, they will probabably sew you up with regular suctures which will fall off by themselves some days later. It heals amazingly fast down there. The worst part about the whole thing for me is when I became stimulated, causing an even semi erection, it would hurt like hell and a few stitches broke. This is normal and the doctor should give you smelling salt (soft peter is what some call this) to make an erection go down immediately. But you will wake up at night because of the pain fro erections. I had no idea men have that many erections while sleeping. Im 41 now. This procedure changed my life drastically for the good. I was having sex again in about three weeks after the procedure.

What good came from the circumcision
I would have to say the most obvious physcial benefits were/are the cleanliness, and better sensitivity and less pain during intercourse. The phsychological benefits to me were/are my old girlfriends (and now wife) seemed much more attractive to my penis and thus seemed to want it more; makes your penis more attractive. Although they never said this I could tell Smile. Also, it gives me the feeling that I am "normal" and not the least self concious about being uncircumcised (not that not being uncircumcised is abnormal because it's not). I would recommend any adult male who is not circumcised to have it done; the procedure is easy and the little pain is over before you really realize it...a little pain for a life-time of benefits. By the way, I also had a vasectomy when I was 39...just two years ago. The circumcision had just a little more pain and healing involved, but neither procedure was bad. I was back to work two days after both procedures. Although you may walk a little funny after the circumcision to prevent aggravating the suctures Smile. Best wishes.
